Carlsberg debuts beer-based men’s grooming line

WASHINGTON — Stories may not get more manly than this one: The makers of Carlsberg beer have come out with a line of grooming products for men. And, yes, a prominent ingredient is beer.

The Danish brewer’s Beer Beauty series includes shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, and the barley, hops and yeast from the beer, loaded with vitamin B, are reputed to be good for hair and skin, Mashable reports.

That’s right: Beer can help you look better, and not just when other people have had too much of it.

“We have researched into the subject, and the advice to use beer for hair and skin is older than the Carlsberg beer itself. And Carlsberg was founded in 1847!” Carlsberg Vice President Mikkel Pilemand tells Mashable.

One Carlsberg worker says he “thought it was a joke,” but Pilemand says the freeze-drying process to create the dried material that goes into the products “has been forgotten and rediscovered” a few times” throughout history.

Check out Carlsberg’s video explaining the process:

It’s a popular line. A Carlsberg spokeswoman says it sold out in four days. It’ll have more next month. Find out more about the whole line, and sign yourself up for an alert when more is available, here.

And, as the company says, please groom responsibly.
