Keurig promises return of refillable K-cups after sales tank

WASHINGTON — Keurig is promising to reintroduce the refillable brewing pods that let customers brew the coffee of their choice, after sales of the single-serving coffeemaker dropped 23-percent in a year.

Keurig 2.0 has used proprietary technology that locked out third-party coffee pods, according to The Verge.

Previously, owners could purchase a cup that could be filled with any brand of coffee to be prepared by the Keurig coffeemaker.

“Quite honestly, we were wrong,” said Keurig president and CEO Brian Kelley. “We underestimated the passion the consumer had for this.”

Later this year, Kelley says Keurig will bring back its refillable My K-Cup.

Don’t bother digging for your old refillable cup — it won’t work. Keurig is designing one that will fit 2.0.

Keurig currently offers approximately 500 varieties from at least 70 brands.
