Police: Reported Springfield abduction attempt was false report

WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police have determined the report of an attempted abduction in the Springfield, Virginia area Friday afternoon was a false report.

Detectives made this determination after interviewing the 12-year-old who made the false report.

WASHINGTON – Fairfax County police are investigating a report of an attempted abduction in the Springfield, Virginia area.

According to police, a man approached a juvenile male in front of the main entrance to Ravensworth Elementary School around 3:15 p.m. April 24. The suspect grabbed the victim from behind and tried to lure him from the school, police said.

The victim resisted and was able to get away. Police say the victim did not need medical attention.

The suspect was described as a while man, 20 to 30 years old, about 6 feet tall, weighing between 225 to 250 pounds, with blonde hair. According to police, the suspect was wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and jeans.
