‘Big Bang Theory’ actress announces split from husband after 21 months

WASHINGTON–  Get your I-told-you-so’s ready: the 21-month ‘whirlwind romance’ of Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and Ryan Sweeting is coming to an end.

The couple’s split may not come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the Sweetings’ history.

Cuoco-Sweeting is most famous for her role as Penny on The Big Bang Theory, a CBS sitcom about two socially awkward physicists and their outgoing female neighbor. Her husband, Ryan Sweeting, is a professional tennis player. The two began dating during the summer of 2013, and were engaged by September. Cuoco-Sweeting told Entertainment Weekly she knew the engagement seemed unusually quick, but their love was real.

“I know that it seems a little crazy on paper, but it’s what works for us,” Cuoco-Sweeting said.

The couple wed on New Years Eve of 2013. Cuoco-Sweeting made headlines and Pinterest boards after photos of her strapless pink wedding gown were posted to Instagram.

This was the first marriage for both of them, but Cuoco-Sweeting had previously been engaged.

Describing the beginning of their relationship, Cuoco-Sweeting told David Letterman in 2014 that it only took one date to fall in love.

“We texted a bit, dinner was great, he moved in the next day.”

Cuoco-Sweeting’s Instagram, @NormanCook, has been scrubbed clean of Sweeting. People Magazine, with all of our best interests at heart, has a gallery of “Kaley and Ryan’s Sweetest Social Media Moments,” of which there are many.

While this couple’s split may have been predictable, other divorce announcements from the summer took people by surprise.

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, “Country’s Cutest Couple,” filed for divorce in July after four years of marriage. The two met in 2005 after performing together at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets concert. They married in 2011.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, another gossip magazine power couple, filed in June after 10 years of marriage. After meeting on the set of ‘Daredevil’ in 2004, the couple married in 2005.
