WASHINGTON – Singer/songwriter Joe Cocker has died of cancer at age 70, according to CBS News.

Cocker was known for his gritty, powerhouse voice on such legendary tunes as “You Are So Beautiful,” while other songs stretched into wider realms of pop culture.

His remake of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” became the theme song for TV’s “The Wonder Years” (1988), while his Grammy-winning duet with Jennifer Warnes, “Up Where We Belong,” won an Oscar in the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman” (1982).
