Man shot by DC officers identified

WASHINGTON — D.C. police released the name of the man who was shot multiple times by police on Good Hope Road Tuesday morning and additional details about what led to the shooting.

At least two D.C. police officers fired at Eric Cuthbertson, 50, who was believed to be involved in an armed robbery in Anacostia and who would not put down a BB gun he was carrying, police said.

Cuthbertson was in critical but stable condition the day after the shooting, police said.

Initially, police said that Cuthbertson was armed with a handgun. It was marked on the pavement as evidence. But police later determined it was a BB gun.

Passers-by flagged down officers after 8 a.m. Tuesday alerting them to an armed robbery on Good Hope Road. Officers fired shots at Cuthbertson after they said he ignored commands to drop his weapon.

He faces multiple charges including armed robbery, assault on a police officer while armed and assault with a dangerous weapon, which police said could be filed if any type of weapon is involved.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.
