Worker rescued from deep hole at D.C. construction site

WASHINGTON — A construction worker was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after he was rescued from a deep hole near the Washington Navy Yard.

D.C. Fire and EMS was called to a construction site for a medical emergency just before 8:40 a.m. When crews arrived, they found the man at the bottom of a 60-foot deep hole, says fire spokesman Tim Wilson.

The worker suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive, Wilson says.

It was unclear how the man was injured.
