WASHINGTON — Metro Transit Police are searching for a man who assaulted a 69-year-old on the escalator at the  Eastern Market Metro station Friday afternoon.

Police say that an unknown man pushed the victim, a 69-year-old man, as they exited the train at the Eastern Market station at about 1 p.m. The victim and suspect had a verbal altercation as they rode on the escalator.

The suspect then punched the victim in the face with a closed fist, causing the victim to collapse near the top of the escalator.

Emergency crews transported the victim, whose name has not yet been released, to an area hospital for treatment of injuries to his face. Police say he is expected to be OK.

Anyone who can identify the individual in the pictures or video is asked to call Metro Transit Police Detectives at 202-962-2121 and reference case #2015-21061.

There are no current warrants for the individual pictured below in reference to this case.
