D.C. Del. Norton responds to parking video

WASHINGTON – D.C. congressional delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has a response to those who saw her doing a pretty abysmal job of parking near the Capitol on Wednesday: I’m working on it.

On Wednesday, Norton parked between the Longworth and Cannon House office buildings in a bizarre manner, leaving her car perpendicular to the curb on New Jersey Avenue SE in an area where the parking spots were diagonal and, according to the people who surreptitiously videotaped the incident, damaged one of the vehicles next to hers.

On Thursday, Norton, 77, told FOX5 that she was late for a TV interview and parking in an area where she doesn’t normally park. She also said there was construction in the area, forcing her to make an unfamiliar maneuver.

She also told FOX5, “Don’t worry! I have signed up for parking lessons and I’m even thinking about upgrading to one of those self-parking cars.”

FOX5 says that Norton’s staffers claim the owner of the car next to her reported no damage, and that the Capitol Police tell them there was no such report.
