Bowser appoints new Food Policy chair

WASHINGTON — A famous chef with ties to D.C. has a new gig.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has appointed Spike Mendelsohn to be the chair of D.C.’s new Food Policy Council.

His job will be to promote entrepreneurship in all eight wards.

Mendelsohn got his big break on the TV show “Top Chef.” Since the show, he’s opened several restaurants in D.C.

But, Mendelsohn has had his issues with D.C. government in the past. In 2008, Mendelsohn was cited by the D.C. Health Department for critical violations including storing beef in the alley outside his restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Later inspections found no further violations.
