Lincoln Memorial in the dark after power outage

UPDATE: The power was restored around 12:30 p.m.

EARLIER: WASHINGTON — The Lincoln Memorial and other parts of the National Mall are in the dark Monday because of a power outage affecting part of D.C.

Pepco says an underground cable failed, knocking out the lights on the memorial, along Virginia Avenue and on the two nearby bridges. Traffic lights in the area are dark.

Pepco crews are working to restore power in the area. There is no word yet on how long it will take Pepco to fix the problem.
