Bloomberg BNA to expand Arlington HQ, add jobs

WASHINGTON — Bloomberg BNA will get a $500,000 grant from the state of Virginia as part of its decision to expand its Arlington headquarters and add about 125 new jobs.

Bloomberg BNA, a legal research and executive report firm, relocated from D.C. to 1801 South Bell St. in Crystal City in 2007. Bloomberg acquired the company in 2011 for almost $1 billion.

As part of the expansion, Bloomberg BNA will invest $5.5 million to expand its current headquarters, and consolidate about 100 people currently working at an office in Bethesda, Maryland, to Crystal City, Virginia.

Virginia competed against Maryland and D.C. for the BNA headquarters.

The company says the expansion is necessary to keep up with growth.

“Our first quarter was a record quarter for new sales,” said Bloomberg spokesman David Peikin.

“We have been adding head count in areas such as engineering and product development and (we) continue expanding our product offerings.

“Moreover, the changeover in administration has heightened the need among our customers for the legal and regulatory news and analysis which we’ve excelled at for decades.”

Bloomberg BNA currently has about 1,000 employees in the Washington region. It is one of the 10 largest private employers in Arlington County.
