Alicia Lozano

A West Coast transplant, Alicia Lozano has been busily navigating the confusing
world of one-way streets since moving to D.C. in 2009.

She got her start in journalism straight out of high school while interning with

daily, which was founded by her great-grandfather in 1927. There she developed an
interest in covering local culture, something Alicia has taken advantage of at
WTOP.

After graduating from Kenyon College with a Bachelors in Political Science, Alicia
returned to California to work on her Masters in Journalism at the University of
Southern California. During a summer abroad, she had the opportunity to intern at
the Los Angeles Times London bureau and eventually landed a fellowship at the
daily. She circulated throughout the newsroom and worked on various beats and
covered East Los Angeles, courts and arts and entertainment. Her favorite
assignments were writing for the Hero Complex section, which is dedicated to all
things science fiction.

Alicia kicked off her D.C. career at the PBS Newshour, where she was able to put
her foreign correspondence experience to the test writing about the drug war in
Mexico and gender issues in Afghanistan. She then moved to POLITICO’s web team and
developed her multimedia skills as a digital journalist.

She joined WTOP in May 2011 as reporter and editor for the web. She writes
everything from <a href="http://www.wtop.com/41/3172047/A-full-serving-of-the-<br />

Her work has also appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Huffington Post and Village
Voice.

When not hunting for new stories, Alicia spends her time riding her Linus bike,
reading sci-fi geek series, watching Game of Thrones and checking out rock shows
up and down the East Coast.
