2 die in early New Year’s accident

BETHESDA, Md. – A young woman and a young man are dead and three more young men are hospitalized after an early New Year’s day accident in Bethesda.

A white 2007 Chevrolet Trail Blazer rounded a curve on Jones Bridge Road, went up on the sidewalk and through a fence before striking a tree on the Bethesda Naval Medical Center property near Lancaster Drive just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Montgomery County Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks tells WTOP the man in the front passenger seat and a woman in the right, rear seat died in the crash.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, has been transported to the Cowley Shock Trauma Center at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and the other two men in the vehicle, who are 18 and 19, suffered non-life threatening injuries to Suburban Hospital.

Police will release the identities of those who died after their families are identified.
