North Carolina Central defeats Savannah St. 42-14

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Malcolm Bell threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns to lead North Carolina Central to a 42-14 victory over Savannah State on Saturday.

Bell was part of four unanswered touchdowns in the second and third quarters to give NCCU (4-4, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 28-7 lead with 4:16 remaining in the third. Trailing 7-0 in the second, Bell passed to Anas Hasic from the 6 for a score, and then ran in from the 1 to end the first half. Bell hit Hasic, who finished with 174 yards, on a 50-yard scoring strike to open the second half and Bell later ran it in from the 6.

NCCU, averaging 379.3 total yards per game this season, amassed 498 yards against Savannah State (0-8, 0-5).

Tino Smith led the Tigers with 202 passing yards and one touchdown.
