Virginia Tech DT Maddy will have 2nd knee surgery

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech defensive tackle Luther Maddy will have a second surgery on his injured right knee and miss the remainder of the season.

Hokies trainer Mike Goforth says Maddy’s recovery time will be 4-6 months and that Maddy will pursue a medical hardship redshirt.

Maddy tore the meniscus in his right knee during Virginia Tech’s loss to East Carolina on Sept. 13. He played the following week against Georgia Tech.

The defensive lineman had surgery Sept. 25 and was expected to return in 2-4 weeks, but has not played since. Maddy can pursue the medical hardship because he has never redshirted at Virginia Tech.

Maddy was a preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection this season. He has played in four games.
