Ohio cashes in on late fumble to beat Akron 23-20

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — JD Sprague threw two TD passes and Ohio cashed in on a late fumble with a field goal by Josiah Yazdani Saturday to beat Akron 23-20.

With the game tied at 20 in the fourth quarter, Devin Bass forced a fumble by Akron’s Andrew Pratt and Jovon Johnson recovered it on the Zips’ 42. Yazdani kicked the winning 22-yard field goal with less than 2 minutes left after Ohio’s ensuing drive stalled at the 6.

Sprague was 17 of 37 for 197 with an interception and TD passes of 49 yards to Ian Dixon and 3 yards to A.J. Ouillette. Yazdani also hit field goals of 42 and 38 yards for Ohio (4-4, 2-2 Mid-Atlantic).

Tommy Woodson threw for two TDs for the Zips (4-3, 2-1), including a 10-yarder to Conor Hundley and a 13-yarder to Zach D’Orazio, and finished 23 of 45 for 238 yards. Robert Stein kicked field goals of 40 and 38 yards.
