North Dakota defeats Stony Brook 13-3

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Alex Tillman returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown to fuel North Dakota’s defense in a 13-3 victory over Stony Brook on Saturday night.

North Dakota (2-2) trailed 3-0 in the second quarter, but assumed the lead quickly as Joe Mollberg connected with Dev Ferguson on a 68-yard strike.

John Kinder drove Stony Brook (1-3) into the red zone, but Tillman shifted momentum with his pick six with 4:42 left in the third quarter.

North Dakota continued to stall Stony Brook’s ensuing drives, forcing two fumbles, two punts and stuffing a fourth-down attempt.

The UND defense finished with six sacks and 16 tackles for losses. Taj Rich totaled 19 tackles and Will Ratelle added 13.

Kinder was 12 of 18 for 172 yards. Will Tye had five receptions for 103 yards.

The Seawolves outgained UND 221-145 in total yards, but their three turnovers proved costly.
