NAIA Grand View beats Drake 45-22

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Derek Fulton passed for four touchdowns as defending NAIA national champion Grand View raced out 28-0 in the opening quarter and beat Drake for the second straight year, 45-22, in a season opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Fulton, the NAIA championship game MVP last year, hit 18 of 28 passes for 293 yards, 232 by halftime, and also was the leading rusher with 123.

Fulton fired three TD passes in the first quarter alone, hitting Jackson Petz on a 16-yarder, Brady Roland for 56 and Davion Hurst from 35.

After Drake closed to 38-22 in the fourth quarter, Fulton hit Roland on a fourth-and-9 play from 30 yards.

Conley Wilkins ran for two Drake scores, one to break the shutout on a fourth-and-1 in the second quarter.

Saturday was the final game in the rivalry between the two Des Moines schools. Grand View is 2-3 in the series.
