MVSU beats University of Faith 32-7

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) — Julian Stafford’s touchdown reception and Jerrell Moore’s touchdown run helped Mississippi Valley State beat University of Faith 32-7 to open the season for both teams on a rainy Saturday.

Stafford’s touchdown gave Mississippi Valley an 18-7 lead with 2:40 left in the first half, and the score remained unchanged until Moore’s 37-yard TD run late in the fourth.

The Delta Devils fell behind 7-0 after University of Faith scored in the first quarter, but pushed away in the second and did not relinquish their lead.

University of Faith committed two safeties in the first half, one on a blocked punt and another after fumbling in the end zone to make the score 11-7. The Glory Eagles are in their first season of college football.

Rick Comegy made his debut as head coach for the Delta Devils, who are set to face-off against Illinois State on September 6.
