Knee setback costs Rice DT Mouchantaf 2014 season

HOUSTON (AP) — Rice senior defensive tackle Stuart Mouchantaf (MOO’-chan-tahf) will miss the 2014 season after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation from knee surgery.

In a statement Thursday, Rice coach David Bailiff said Mouchantaf reinjured his knee while performing rehab work and needed more surgery. The statement says Mouchantaf is eligible for a redshirt and will now work toward returning for the 2015 season.

Mouchantaf started the first eight games of last season with junior Christian Covington on the interior of the Owls’ front four before injuring his knee early in the game against UTEP. In those eight games, the transfer from Blinn College was credited with 33 tackles, including 25 over his final five games, and had a career-high eight stops.
