WASHINGTON – Virginia counties are hoping residents decide to buy a glass and take a wine tour to help boost tourism over Father’s Day weekend.
Called the “Grapes and Grains Trail,” the Stafford and Spotsylvania counties tourism initiative offers a look at the best spirits producers in the Fredericksburg area, according to the Freelance Star.
For $12, eager drinkers get a tour of four wineries, the A. Smith Bowman whiskey distillery and the Blue & Gray Brewing Company.
The wineries include the Hartwood Winery, Potomac Point Winery, Lake Anna Winery and Mattaponi Winery.
The ticket also includes a stemless wine glass for tastings with the Grapes and Grains Trail logo on it, and a 20 percent discount at each facility’s gift shop, according to the Star.
“It has a little bit for everyone,” Cindi Causey, who owns Potomac Point with her husband, Skip, tells the Star.
Most wine trails host wineries that are much farther away, Causey says. All of the stops on the “Grapes and Grains Trail” can be visited in one day.
