16 Arrested Near Nats Park Over the Weekend

March 31, 2008 - 2:26pm
WASHINGTON - It was no storybook ending for some unsuspecting fans at the inaugural game at Nationals Park Sunday night.

Sixteen arrests were made outside the stadium Saturday and Sunday, according to D.C. Police spokesperson Traci Hughes. All the individuals arrested were charged with scalping tickets on the street. Thirty-eight tickets were seized, and more than $5,000 forfeited.

In the District, scalping is illegal regardless of the asking price.

Four others were arrested for selling T-shirts and baseball caps without a permit.

The tow trucks were also busy. A spokesperson for D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty says more than 100 cars were towed from the surrounding neighborhood. Some of the car owners did have parking permits, but were parked on streets with visible 'No Parking' signs.

The Nationals beat the Braves in dramatic fashion when Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo homerun with two outs in the ninth inning.
