What’s open and closed on Christmas

WASHINGTON – In your search for that last minute ingredient or the mad dash to get to the family dinner, here’s everything you need to know for your Christmas plans.

Getting around

Metrorail and Metrobus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. The rail system is open from 7 a.m. until midnight. Metro parking is free.

No MARC Train or VRE service is available Dec. 25.

HOV restrictions on Christmas day are lifted across the region, with the exception of Route 50 in Maryland.

On I-95/395 in Virginia, reversible lanes will remain southbound until midnight Christmas Day and switch to northbound by 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26.

Museums and visitors centers at the monuments are closed for Christmas.

What’s open and closed?

Most stores will be open on Christmas Eve, but many will be closing early.

On Christmas day, Giant and Safeway will be open, as will CVS and Walgreens and convenience stores.
