Indian dog goes from junkyard to Mount Everest (Video)

WASHINGTON – From a junkyard to (almost) the top of the world. One rescue dog has had quite the life journey.

The Daily Mail reports that Joanne Lefson adopted Rupee when he was eight months old. When she found him, he was dehydrated and starving.

She immediately put him in a high-protein diet of boiled eggs and rice, the Mail reports.

When she began planning the trip to Everest, doctors told Lefson that Rupee would be fine because he was born in the Himilayas. He wouldn’t suffer from altitude sickness.

Rupee could be the first dog officially recorded at Mount Everest Base Camp.

The trek to Base Camp, 17,000 feet above sea level, had originally been planned with Lefson’s dog, Oscar, who became famous as the globe-trotting dog. Oscar died in January after being by a truck.

Lefson considers Rupee to be carrying on Oscar’s legacy of bringing awareness to adopting homeless dogs.
