Lawsuit: Man carrying Jolly Ranchers arrested for crystal meth

WASHINGTON – A Brooklyn man is seeking monetary damages after police in New York mistook his Jolly Rancher candies for crystal meth.

The New York Daily News reports Love Olantunjiojo was detained for 24 hours after cops stopped and searched him and a friend. They reportedly found two “red crystalline rocks of solid material” and four “blue crystalline rocks of solid material.”

One of the officers said he conducted a field test that gave a “positive” result for the items being narcotics, according to the complaint cited by the Daily News. But later lab analysis identified the “rocks” as Jolly Ranchers.

“I don’t know if these cops have been watching ‘Breaking Bad,’ but my client is not Walter White,” said lawyer Kenneth Smith, according to the Daily News.

Charges were dismissed against the two men in September.
