Maintenance equipment derails on Metro tracks

WASHINGTON – A maintenance crane came off the tracks overnight Thursday in the same area where a Metro train derailed last week.

There were no service disruptions this time after the crane — a light piece of maintenance equipment used to replace railroad ties — derailed around the Rhode Island Avenue station early Friday morning.

Metro says the derailment didn’t happen on the same track, and officials don’t believe the incidents are related.
