Fenty Narrows Fire Chief Choices

January 25, 2007 - 6:52pm
WASHINGTON - D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty may be narrowing his choice for the city's next fire chief to five candidates.

After a nationwide search, current interim Chief Brian Lee is still on the list. Also said to be in the running are Toledo, Ohio Fire Chief Michael Bell, retired D.C. Battalion Chief Stephen Reid and former Miami-Dade County Fire official David James, WRC-TV reports. The fifth candidate has not been identified.

All five potential fire chiefs were in the District Thursday for interviews.

Adrian Thompson was the most recent permanent chief, but he retired when he learned that Fenty did not intend to keep him as part of his administration.

The position has been subject to rapid turnover in recent years.
