Firefighters to deliver free pizza to residents

WASHINGTON –The doorbell rings, and there is a firefighter delivering a hot oven pizza on the front stoop, asking to see your smoke alarm. No, it’s not “Candid Camera.” But if there is a working smoke alarm in the house, that pizza is free.

In the spirit of Fire Prevention Week, the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services is making a deal with county residents: prove that the smoke alarm is in working order and get a free Domino’s pizza.

“If your smoke alarm is determined to be non-working,” the fire department said in a recent release, “you will pay for your pizza, however, firefighters will install a new 10-year, tamper proof, with hush feature smoke alarm, free of charge … everyone is a winner.”

Not everyone will get a surprise visit, but the chances are better a firefighter will show up if you call your local Domino’s Pizza, which is partnering with the county for the smoke alarm challenge during the allotted times and dates. The department does not indicate how many homes it will seek to visit, or how it will choose which ones to visit.

Here is a list of participating Domino’s with the dates and times:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 7: 4646 New Carrollton Rd. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 8: 4653 Forestville Rd. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 11: 4658 Greenbelt Rd. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
