Man charged with taking D.C. cop’s car, daughter

WASHINGTON – A D.C. man was arrested Saturday in connection with stealing a Metropolitan police officer’s car with his 9-year-old daughter inside.

Prince George’s County police say the off-duty officer confronted the thief and fired at the car as it was driven away from the officer’s Clinton, Md., home Friday morning.

Police arrested Demetrice Littles, 19, after he sought medical treatment for a gunshot wound at an area hospital Saturday.

Police say Little stole a car parked in the 5000 block of Vienna Drive. The officer saw Little in the car with his daughter and ordered him out of the car.

The girl was able to jump out of the car safely before Little drove across the lawn toward the officer, who shot at the car, fearing for his own safety, police say.

Little crashed the car nearby. He ran toward a champagne-colored Toyota and fled the area.

Police did not initially know if the man who crashed the car had been injured.

Little, of the 1800 block of M Street NE, faces charges of kidnapping, abduction, auto theft, and first degree assault, police say.
