Fired director joins OSU band alumni for game

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The fired director of Ohio State’s celebrated marching band conducted the alumni band during its annual game-day appearance at Ohio Stadium.

Jonathan Waters was also among alumni musicians who marched into the stadium Saturday for the Buckeyes’ game against Kent State.

The 37-year-old Waters was fired July 24 after a university investigation concluded he knew about but didn’t stop a “sexualized culture” within what’s called The Best Damn Band in The Land. The band is well known for its elaborate halftime shows, which have drawn hundreds of thousands of views online.

TBDBITL Alumni Club members have backed Waters’ reinstatement. A representative said all former members and past directors were invited to Saturday’s event. About 700 signed up.

The university stands by the firing.
