Rizeena wins Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot

ASCOT, England (AP) — Rizeena bounced back from defeat in the 1,000 Guineas with a victory Friday in the Coronation Stakes, the feature race on the fourth day of Royal Ascot.

The 11-2 shot, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Clive Brittain, beat Lesstalk in Paris by three-quarters of a length, with Euro Charline finishing third in the mile race for three-year-old fillies.

There was drama at the start as Kieren Fallon was unseated on leaving the stalls by American challenger Rosalind. Fallon was shaken up but did not look seriously injured as he left the course on foot.

My Titania went to the front early on before Jimmy Fortune sent J Wonder to the head of the field. Moore made his decisive move with two furlongs to go then withstood his rivals’ late challenges.

Moore says “it was a long way that last furlong, but she was the fastest horse in the race and she’s just done enough.”
