Brittany Force takes No. 1 spot in Top Fuel

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Brittany Force raced to the No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel on Saturday in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Force claimed her second No. 1 qualifier in the last three events with her Friday run of 3.828 seconds at 317.94 mph in the 10,000-horsepower dragster.

“(Winning) would be the ultimate Father’s Day present to my dad,” said Force, the daughter of Funny Car star John Force and sister of Funny Car driver Courtney Force. “I love coming here to Bristol. It’s one of my favorite tracks by far. It’s just beautiful and green, and I have forgotten how loud it is when you’re standing down here at Thunder Valley.

“Standing on the starting line watching my sister, it’s so much louder, and being down here, it just intensifies the entire experience. I’m excited for race day, and I would love to end up in the winner’s circle, especially on race day.”

Del Worsham led the Funny Car lineup, and Shane Gray topped the Pro Stock field.

Worsham set both ends of the track record Friday with a 3.992 at 319.45 in his Toyota Camry. He also topped qualifying last year in the event.

Gray set both ends of the Bristol Dragway track record and secured his first career No. 1 qualifying position with a 6.621 at 208.78 in a Chevy Camaro.
