MCPS: Students come forward after substitute teacher charged

WASHINGTON — The school system that employed a former substitute teacher
charged with having inappropriate contact with a student is continuing to look
into the man’s employment record.

In a news release, Montgomery County Public Schools says that the substitute
teacher, Jose Pineda, had worked at 20 schools since the 2013-2014 school
year. A letter was previously sent home with parents asking them to report any
information about other inappropriate conduct as soon as possible.

The incident that sparked the school system’s response occurred at Roberto
Clemente Middle School in October. In that case, Pineda faces a charged of
sexual abuse of a minor.

Some students at Ridgeview Middle School and Gaithersburg Elementary School
have said they “had interactions with Mr. Pineda that were inappropriate or
made them feel uncomfortable.”

No new charges have been filed against Pineda.

Gboyinde Onijala with MCPS says the information was
forwarded to police. Police tell WTOP they can’t comment on the ongoing
investigation.

Last month, John Epps Jr., a contract employee at John T. Baker Middle School
in Montgomery County, was charged with a fourth-degree sex offense for touch a
