Roof Changing Its Name, Menu – Roof (7940 Norfolk Ave.), the two-floor bar and restaurant opened last December by Tommy Joe’s owner Alan Pohoryles, is changing its name to Roof Kitchen & Bar in an effort to draw more attention to the full service dining area. Pohoryles said customers sometimes confuse the second floor dining room as the upstairs of Smashburger, the fast casual hamburger chain on the building’s first floor. Roof will also introduce a new menu with lower prices. [Bethesda Magazine]

Local Entrepreneur Named Finalist In Startup Maryland – Sarah Kavanagh, who founded Bethesda-based software management company Quatrove, was announced last week as one of eight finalists in the annual Startup Maryland competition. Kavanagh will join the other finalists at a venture capital expo this month, where winners will be up for a $100,000 grant from the state of Maryland. [Startup Maryland via YouTube]

Snow Plow Truck Drivers Ready For Winter – Montgomery County Department of Transportation officials gathered last week in Derwood for their annual “Snow Summit,” the event in which plow truck drivers from a variety of agencies get together to coordinate snow and ice responses in winter. The county spent $35 million clearing its streets over 30 storm events last winter. This year, the county has 225 workers, 175 pieces of equipment, 600 more pieces of equipment through contractors and 85,000 tons of salt prepared. [The Gazette]
