Restaurateur Haley Dies After Motorcycle Crash – Matthew Haley, the Delaware beach restaurateur and Kensington native, died this week after a motorcycle accident in India. Haley started in the restaurant business in Bethesda, where he was one of the founding partners of Tommy Joe’s in 1997. He opened up a long line of restaurants at Bethany Beach, Rehoboth Beach and Fenwick Island and was on a humanitarian mission in India when the accident happened.
Frosh Takes The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge — After Rep. Chris Van Hollen challenged him, District 16 State Sen. and attorney general nominee Brian Frosh took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Thursday at an event in Washington County. Popular Chef Leaving Popular Restaurant Group – Chef Michael Harr is leaving Bethesda’s Food, Wine & Co. (7272 Wisconsin Ave.) and its spin-offs City Burger (7015 Wisconsin Ave.) and Fish Taco (7945 MacArthur Blvd.). Harr has worked with Food, Wine & Co. owner Francis Namin on the concepts since 2011. Namin said he’s replacing Harr with Sam Henderson, the director of operations for Aramark, and said Henderson will lead his expansion of Fish Taco and City Burger into places including Rockville and Arlington. Applications Open For Fine Arts Festival – The Bethesda Urban Partnership has opened up applications for the 2015 Bethesda Fine Arts Festival, set for Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 next year in Woodmont Triangle. The annual event features 130 booth spaces. All artists will be selected by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District advisory committee. [Bethesda Urban Partnership]
