Big Train Lose In Summer League Championship Game – The Bethesda Big Train lost to the Baltimore Redbirds in Saturday’s Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League championship game at Shirley Povich Field. The Big Train, a summer collegiate baseball team based in Cabin John Regional Park, finished the season with a 34-11 record, best in the league. It was the sixth straight summer the Big Train and Redbirds faced off in the championship game. [Bethesda Big Train]

Potomac Nursery Hits The Road – Citing increased rent, Behnke Nursery closed its River Road location in June and held a farewell party last week. The garden and plant store was at the 9545 River Rd. location since 1998 and employed as many as 30 people during peak times. A few of the employees will make their way to Behnke’s flagship location in Beltsville. [The Gazette]

Bethesda Men’s Shelter Moved To Make Way For Redevelopment – The men’s shelter on Cordell Avenue has finally moved to a new facility in White Flint after its lease ran out. The 4848 Cordell Ave. building is expected to be redeveloped into a new restaurant and bar. [Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row]
