Police investigate kidnapping, robbery in Silver Spring

WASHINGTON – After a night at the casino, a man was robbed inside his hotel room in Silver Spring and held there while the robbers tried to squeeze more money out of the victim and his friend.

Now Montgomery County police are looking for four people believed to be involved in the robbery and kidnapping.

Police say two people were held up at a Marriott hotel in Silver Spring Thursday morning.

Three men reportedly entered a room at the Marriot at approximately 6:30 a.m. and requested money from the room’s occupant, who had opened the door. The occupant gave the suspects cash, but the suspects said it was not enough and he would have to give them more, according to Montgomery County police.

At that point, the hotel occupant called a friend, who was held inside the room after he arrived, police say.

Two of the three male suspects forced the friend into a waiting vehicle driven by a woman. The thieves took the friend to a Bank of America branch on Columbia Pike and forced him to withdraw money. While at the bank, the friend was able to pass a note to the teller, who called police. The two male suspects and the female driver fled before police arrived, police say.

The third male suspect reportedly remained at the hotel with the room occupant while the others went to the bank. After the third male suspect received a phone call, he fled the hotel, police reported.

The hotel occupant went to a Home Depot, where he called police.

Neither the hotel occupant nor his friend were hurt. The hotel occupant told police he was at Maryland Live! Casino Wednesday night, according to the police report.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identities of the suspects is asked to call Call Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a tip on the Crime Solvers website.
