8 finalists for $10K grand prize from Bethesda Painting Awards.

Eight local painters are up for a $10,000 Best In Show prize at the Bethesda Urban Partnership’s annual Bethesda Painting Awards.

The winners (second place will get $2,000 and third place $1,000) will be announced on June 4 at BUP’s Gallery B. The public opening will come on Friday, June 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as part of the monthly Bethesda Art Walk.

The eight finalists:

Si Jae Byun — Vienna, Va.
Ryan Carr Johnson — Gaithersburg
Kyle Hackett — Baltimore
Philip Hinge — Richmond, Va.
Ali Miller — Baltimore
Dan Perkins — Washington, D.C.
Bill Schmidt — Baltimore
Kendra Wadsworth — Manakin Sabot, Va.

Three local art professors judged the entries. The competition began in 2005, established by Bethesda philanthropist and art enthusiast Carol Trawick.
