MCFRS Will Use Drones To Help Fight Fires – The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service will use three Unmanned Aircraft Systems to help them see what’s going on above dangerous fires, hazmat situations or even during water rescues along the Potomac River. The devices can hover about 25-30 feet above a building with a camera, which will give fire crews a better look at the structural integrity of a building or changing currents in the Potomac River. The devices are less than two feet in diameter, cost less than $1,000 and can be operated by a smart phone. [WNEW]

Bethesda Woman Celebrates 51 Years In Local Book Club – Helen Glazer is 89 and has been in the Last Monday Book Club since it was founded in 1963. That might make it the oldest continuously operating book club in the area that still has an original member. It might not. Regardless, Glazer talked about how times have changed in the club of about 15 members. One of the first books the club read was Betty Friedan’s “The Feminine Mystique,” the selection of which nearly broke up the group, made up of suburban housewives. [Washington Post]
