Nebel Street Bike Lanes — The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has plans for a traffic calming project on Nebel Street in North Bethesda that would also add bike lanes. Nebel Street stretches from Nicholson Lane north to Randolph Road, with key intersections at Marinelli Road and Old Georgetown Road. The plans are conceptual and there is no set start date for the project, though it could happen as early as this year. [Friends of White Flint]
For Gansler, Winning Home County Is Vital — Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Doug Gansler grew up in Chevy Chase and lives in Bethesda. He has consistently pressed his Montgomery County upbringing in local campaign events and has said Annapolis needs to stop treating the county as “the state’s ATM.” But with the June 24 primary approaching, Gansler has only a 10-point lead on main rival Anthony Brown, according to a Washington Post poll conducted last month. Local Swimmers Make All-County List — A number of local high schoolers, including Olympic gold medalist and world champion Katie Ledecky, made The Gazette’s list of best Montgomery County swimmers. Ledecky, who goes to Stone Ridge, became the first woman to break the 4:30 mark in the 500-yard freestyle she swam at a local championship meet. Georgetown Prep’s Carsten Vissering was named athlete of the year on the boys’ side. He won every contested event and led Georgetown Prep to its first Metros title in four years. [The Gazette]
Microbrewery Bill Looks To Have Clear Sailing — A pair of bills at the State House that would make it easier to open and operate a microbrewery in Montgomery County passed the House of Delegates on Tuesday by votes of 135-1 and 135-0. The bills will go on to the state Senate. [WAMU]
