Trachtenberg Says Race Against Berliner No Grudge Match — Some felt former at-large County Councilmember Duchy Trachtenberg’s late entry into the District 1 Council race is an attempt to get back at current District 1 Councilmember Roger Berliner. Trachtenberg endorsed Berliner in 2010 before Berliner endorsed Hans Riemer, one of Trachtenberg’s chief competitors who went on to win one of four at-large seats. Trachtenberg finished fifth. But Trachtenberg says her decision to run in District 1 is no grudge match against Berliner. “I did endorse and him and supported him. I trusted he would do a good job but he hasn’t and it’s time for a change. That’s certainly what the community is telling me.” [Washington Post]

Walter Reed Active Shooter Exercise — A reminder that as part of a slew of security drills planned for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, there will be a Code White Exercise/Active Shooter Drill on the base on Thursday. The exercise should last no longer than 15 minutes and shouldn’t affect any activity outside the base fence. There will be no movement throughout the hospital during the drill and all staff will be asked to shelter in place. Visitors might be moved to secure locations during the exercise. GGW Writer: Speed Cameras Should Be More Strict — In Maryland, speed camera tickets are issued to drivers caught going at least 12 miles per hour over the speed limit. Matt Johnson, a writer for Greater Greater Washington, says that leeway could make less serious pedestrian accidents into serious ones. A pedestrian has a 50 percent chance of surviving a collision at 30 miles per hour and only a 10 percent chance when the vehicle is going 40 miles per hour. [Greater Greater Washington]

Planners are asking folks to RSVP so they have enough handout materials. [Montgomery County Planning Department]
