We do know it will snow Wednesday night into Thursday. How much we’ll get is up for debate — and projections can change as the storm approaches.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and is calling for 6-10 inches in Montgomery County and 6-8 inches in the downcounty area.
Most meteorologists around town generally agree, though some have latest snow total projections that come in slightly less than NWS:
Washington Post Capital Weather Gang: 5-10 inches in DC and the immediate area, with 8-14 inches in the rest of Montgomery County.
ABC7′s Devon Lucie: 2-4 inches from Prince George’s County to Arlington, 4-6 inches farther west toward Dulles.
Weather.com: 5-8 inches on Wednesday night and 3-5 inches on Thursday.
NBCWashington and WUSA9: 6-9 inches.
WUSA9′s Topper Shutt: 9-12 inches for all of Montgomery County, with the line for 6-9 inches passing through D.C.
Fox5: 7-10 inches.
Weatherbug: 8-12 inches.
Montgomery County is expecting heavy snow and on Tuesday put out a list of safety tips. You can sign up for Alert Montgomery here, which will allow the county to send any emergency alerts to your phone.
Also check out county snow plowing operations here and remember county crews clear main county roads and emergency routes first after three inches of snow has fallen. Work on neighborhood streets doesn’t happen until after the snow has stopped.
