Farm Women’s Market Celebrates Valentine’s Day — More than 50 local craftspeople will be at the Bethesda Farm Women’s Market (7155 Wisconsin Ave.) on Friday and next Friday, Feb. 14 for a special Valentine’s Market. Salt Supplies Take Big Hit — Some snow storms and record low temperatures have meant a big hit in salt supplies of county and state transportation agencies. Montgomery County has used a little less than 50,000 tons of road salt since November, a cost of about $2.6 million. The county tries to keep around 30,000 tons on hand at all times to deal with a major storm. More snow threatens this weekend. [The Gazette]
Duncan Attacks Leggett On Biotech Incubator Shutdown — Montgomery County is closing its Rockville biotech incubator and replacing it with a cybersecurity center funded with federal money. Doug Duncan, looking to unseat County Executive Isiah Leggett, says throwing “40 companies out on the street” is a mistake. Steve Silverman, Leggett’s Economic Development director, says Duncan “doesn’t have his facts straight,” and that there was no other space for the cybersecurity facility. Silverman said the county is working to find suitable place for the biotech start-ups and may expand a Germantown incubator to accommodate some of the firms. [Washington Post]
