Boy killed in Montgomery Village fire ID’d

WASHINGTON – A child killed in an apartment fire in Maryland on Jan. 9 has been identified.

Lancelot Quarshie, 4, died in the fire at the Cider Mill Apartments in the 18200 block of Lost Knife Circle, near Lake Forest Mall in Montgomery Village, Md.

A Montgomery County Fire Department spokesman says the fire started around 4 p.m. Investigators say the fire was accidental. The American Red Cross and the apartment’s management are helping the more than 40 residents who were displaced. Damage to the building was estimated at $750,000 and $300,000 for the contents inside.

There’s been no update on the man officials initially said suffered life- threatening injuries.

A fire spokesman says three other people, including two children, were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

The fire is still under investigation.
