A new restaurant space on Cordell Avenue will likely bring a bit of new public art to Woodmont Triangle.

Steven J. Karr, architect for owner Lenny Greenberg’s 4848 Cordell Ave. property, recently released renderings of a New York City skyline mural planned for the wall of the building facing a small public parking lot.

The building is now the site of a men’s transitional homeless shelter leased by Montgomery County and operated by Catholic Charities. The county will consolidate the homeless shelter with a women’s shelter in North Bethesda and Greenberg hopes to replace it with another new bar and restaurant-type tenant.

Karr said he went to Mt. Airy-based ATS Studios, the same group that did the art work on the base of the raised patio at Pizzeria da Marco (8008 Woodmont Ave.).

The idea is for something to grab the attention of pedestrians and onlookers in Woodmont Triangle. Karr said the renderings above show a placeholder design, taken from photos of buildings at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Actual photos of building were harder to scale. Look for updates to the building design and mural on Karr’s company Facebook page.
