Walk For Children Sunday In Woodmont Triangle

Walk for Children, Woodmont Triangle A local nonprofit that funds educational and medical programs for needy children in Iran and elsewhere will hold a fundraiser on Sunday in Woodmont Triangle.

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Norfolk Avenue will be closed to traffic and parking for the Children of Persia’s ninth annual Walk For Children and Fall Festival. The event is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The two-mile walk will include music, dance performances, Iranian food, raffles and arts and crafts.

The group, which was founded in 1999 to help Iranians living abroad donate to those in need in Iran, is hoping to raise $50,000 to fund the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged schools in Azerbaijan, as well as educational programs in that country, Iran and the U.S.

In 2011, the event raised $45,000 toward the nonprofit’s Street and Working Children program in Iran.
