A Bethesda nonprofit that provides support groups for cancer patients has a new manager.
Hope Connections for Cancer Support, which offers mind-body classes, knitting, yoga and other activities to help cancer victims and their families cope with the disease, has hired Bethesda native Laurie Kaye Schwartz as its volunteer coordinator and office manager.
Schwartz, a former engineer and teacher, has spent much of her time in nonprofit work. She was a foster parent to homeless young adults and worked with Habitat for Humanity.
Hope Connections moved to the historic Beaumont House, situated on a Rockville Pike medical research campus, in April from a space near the Grosvenor Mansion.
Bonnie and Bernie Kogod started the foundation in 2005 to honor their daughter, Michelle Susan Kogod, who died of cancer at age 18.
The facility near Grosvenor opened in Marych 2007 and has had more than 40,000 visits to its support groups and workshops.
