Schoenfeld scores twice, Crew beat Red Bulls 3-1

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — Aaron Schoenfeld scored twice and the Columbus Crew beat the New York Red Bulls 3-1 on Sunday to move in a third- place tie in the Eastern Conference.

The Crew (13-10-10) moved two points ahead of the Red Bulls (12-10-11) and into a tie with Sporting Kansas City. The No. 3 seed gets a first-round bye in the playoffs, and all three teams remain in contention with one game left. Next Sunday, the Red Bulls visit Sporting KC, and Columbus hosts the Philadelphia Union.

Schoenfeld opened the scoring in the 17th minute and made it 3-1 in the 80th. Ethan Finlay added his 11th goal of the season in the 34th minute to give the Crew a 2-0 lead. Finley also had two assists.

Lloyd Sam scored for New York in the 58th minute.
