Impact beat Red Bulls in CONCACAF Champions League

MONTREAL (AP) — Marco Di Vaio scored in the first half in the Montreal Impact’s 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls in a CONCACAF Champions League game Wednesday night.

The Impact improved to 3-0-0 in group play, with one game left against New York (1-1-0) on Oct. 22 at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls played without stars Thierry Henry, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Tim Cahill and finished the game with 10 men after defender Connor Lade was sent off with 14 minutes left.

Di Vaio scored in the 16th minute. After a Red Bulls giveaway in midfield, Ignacio Piatti found Di Vaio at the edge of the 18-yard box. The Italian chested the ball down and poked it past goalkeeper Ryan Meara.
